At Mt. St. Joseph in New Windsor on April 23, Divine Mercy Sunday and the day after Earth Day, the Sisters of the Presentation engaged in what Pope Francis terms the 8th work of mercy: having mercy on our common home. We participated in the global #Mercy2Earth campaign, at the invitation of the Global Catholic Climate Movement.
After the community Sunday liturgy, sisters, friends from the neighboring area, and our celebrant took part in a colorful procession from the chapel to our administration building, carrying large hand drawn pictures of creation drawn by Sister Mary O’Neill.
After refreshments and a viewing of the YouTube video, “The Future,” handouts were distributed recommending specific ways to advocate on behalf of Earth.
A spirit of solidarity and joy motivates us to live out our chapter call: listen and respond to the cry of Earth urging us to bring forth a sustainable society.
